Mauna Loa Update 12/1/22 4pm

Transcript; This is a Civil Defense message.

This is an Eruption update for Thursday, December 1st at 4 in the afternoon.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports active lava flows on the northeast rift of Mauna Loa Volcano. The leading edge of the flow closest to Daniel K. Inouye Highway had minimal movement and remains near the 7,000 foot elevation and more than 3 miles from the highway.

For a map of the Mauna Loa lava flow, please refer to the Civil Defense Hazard Impact Map at https://www.hawaiicounty.gov/hazard-impact-map.

Daniel K. Inouye Highway is open in both directions.

Be advised that a traffic hazard safety route has been developed and is accessed from DKI across the Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area. The one way route will provide safe viewing of the lava flows.

You will be updated of any changes that affect your safety.

This is your Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency.
